Laundromat Marketing on a Budget: What Actually Works

You don't need a big marketing budget to grow a laundromat. Most of the highest-impact strategies cost little to nothing. Here's what actually works.

Google Business Profile (Free)

This is the single most important marketing asset for a laundromat. When someone searches "laundromat near me," Google Business Profile determines whether you show up. Claim your profile, add accurate hours, upload quality photos (inside and outside), respond to reviews, and post updates regularly. This alone can drive significant foot traffic.

Customer Reviews (Free)

Ask satisfied customers to leave a Google review. A simple sign near the exit — "Enjoyed your experience? Leave us a Google review!" — with a QR code linking to your review page makes it easy. Every positive review improves your local search ranking and builds trust with new customers.

Referral Incentives ($50-$100/month)

Give existing customers a reason to bring friends. A free wash for every referral who becomes a regular, or a buy-5-get-1-free loyalty card, costs very little but generates word-of-mouth traffic that's more valuable than any ad.

Local Partnerships (Free)

Partner with nearby apartment complexes, hotels, and property managers. Offer to place business cards or flyers in their lobbies. In return, recommend their services to your customers. Wall-mounted card holders make this easy — swap in partner materials alongside your own cards.

Social Media (Free)

You don't need to go viral. Post once or twice a week: photos of your clean facility, before/after renovation shots, customer tips, and new machine announcements. Facebook and Instagram work best for local businesses. The goal isn't followers — it's staying visible to your local community.

Targeted Signage ($100-$500)

A-frame sidewalk signs, window decals with your services and hours, and directional signs on nearby streets can drive walk-in traffic; our laundromat signage and carts guide covers what goes inside once they walk in. Focus on visibility from the street — customers driving by should instantly know you're there and what you offer.

What Doesn't Work

Avoid expensive print ads in local magazines, radio spots, and broad-target Facebook ads. Laundromats serve a tight geographic radius — your marketing should too. Every dollar should target people within 3 miles of your location.
