Speed Queen Soap Tray Organization Guide for Laundromat Owners

Speed Queen is the workhorse of the laundromat industry. But even the best machines have one weak spot: the soap tray. Without clear labeling, customers pour detergent into the softener compartment, bleach into the detergent slot, or overfill everything.

Here's how to organize your Speed Queen soap trays for good.

Understanding the Speed Queen Soap Tray Layout

Speed Queen front-load commercial washers use a standard three-compartment soap tray: detergent (wash), bleach (liquid only), and fabric softener. The compartments are typically labeled with small embossed text that's nearly impossible to read.

Step 1: Install a Color-Coded Liner

A color-coded tray liner sits inside the soap tray and assigns a distinct color to each compartment. Installation takes under 5 minutes:

  1. Remove the machine top to access the soap tray
  2. Clean the tray with isopropyl alcohol
  3. Peel the adhesive backing off the liner
  4. Slide the liner into the tray, tucking it under the rubber gaskets

Step 2: Apply the Instruction Label

The matching label applies to the inside of the tray lid. Peel and stick, centered above the compartments. Available in English/Spanish or English only. Let the adhesive cure overnight — full bond at 72 hours.

Step 3: Roll It Out Across Your Fleet

Once you've done one machine, the rest go fast. Budget about 5 minutes per machine. For a 20-machine laundromat, you can have the entire fleet organized in under two hours.

What About Huebsch Machines?

Huebsch and Speed Queen are manufactured by Alliance Laundry Systems and share the same soap tray design. The same organizer kit fits both brands.

Results You'll See

Operators who install soap tray organizer kits report fewer customer complaints about soap residue, less detergent waste, and a more professional appearance. It's one of the lowest-cost, highest-impact upgrades you can make.
