Huebsch Commercial Washers and Dryers: The Laundromat Operator's Guide

Huebsch is the second vended brand of Alliance Laundry Systems, and a Huebsch commercial washer is the same machine that ships with a Speed Queen badge. That makes the buying decision simpler than the name suggests. You're choosing a capacity, a control generation, a distributor and a warranty date, not a different washer. Here's how the lineup breaks down and where each of those choices gets made.

Same Factory as Speed Queen

Alliance Laundry Systems in Ripon, Wisconsin builds Speed Queen, Huebsch, UniMac, IPSO and Primus. The Huebsch vended hardmount spec sheet (AH20-0108) lists HCT020 through HCT100 with the same capacities, cylinder diameters and door openings that the Speed Queen SC brochure prints for SC20 through SC100. If you've stood in front of both rows and wondered whether Huebsch and Speed Queen are really the same machine, the spec sheets settle it.

What differs is the wrapper. Huebsch calls its controls Galaxy where Speed Queen says Quantum. Huebsch's networking suite is Command; Speed Queen's is Insights. Distributor territories are separate, so the brand you can buy and get serviced locally is often decided for you. The Washer Lineup

Huebsch sells three vended washer families. The cabinet hardmount washer-extractor is the laundromat workhorse, bolted to a slab, and the current page lists 20, 30, 40, 60, 80, 100 and a new 120 lb capacity (spec sheet AH26-0043, printed as HAT120). Softmount washer-extractors come in 20, 30, 40, 55 and 70 lb for basements and second floors where you can't anchor to concrete. A 21.5 lb front load washer with Galaxy 600 rounds out the small end.

*Cylinder volume and cabinet width are from the Speed Queen SC brochure (AC18-0008), which describes the same cylinder and cabinet. Capacity, cylinder diameter and door opening are from the Huebsch sheet.

The door opening is the number that matters on the floor. It's what your customer reaches through, and it decides whether a comforter goes into the 40 lb machine or gets dragged to the 80. Note that the 40 and 60 share a 16.3 in door and the 80 and 100 share 18.5 in, so the step up in capacity doesn't always buy a bigger hole. Cylinder depth, cabinet dimensions, weight and what fits through each door are in the HCT020 to HCT100 spec table.

The softmount line is Galaxy Touch only. A reseller estimate puts softmount at roughly 30% more than the equivalent hardmount, so buy it for the floor you have, not as an upgrade. The front load washer spins at 440 G, offers 30 programmable water levels and 24 cycle selections, and is the right pairing next to large washer-extractors when you need a cheap small load.

Reading the Model Number

Huebsch model numbers carry more than the capacity. The warranty page separates "pre-Galaxy design units, models beginning with HC0" from "Galaxy design units, models beginning with HCN0", and the current hardmount sheet prints HCT020 through HCT100. Dryers follow the same logic: HT030 is a single-pocket 30 lb and HTT30 is a stack with two 30 lb pockets.

Alliance publishes no public decoder for the third letter, so treat anything beyond that as dealer usage until you see it on an Alliance document. The Huebsch model-number decoder walks each prefix back through Alliance's own literature (ah05-200, ah07-202, ah13-0009) and flags which letters are confirmed and which aren't.

Galaxy 500, Galaxy 600 and Galaxy Touch

The control is where two identical cabinets become two different businesses. It decides how many cycles you can price, whether you can charge more at 6 p.m. than at 10 a.m., and whether the machine talks to your phone. Three generations are in service.

Galaxy Touch is the current premium control, and Huebsch's durability claims for it are specific: push-button tested to 1 million presses per square inch of control surface, impact tested with a one-pound ball dropped from 4 feet after three hours in freezing temperatures, and a polycarbonate face that survived Formula 409, Windex and bleach.

Huebsch Command is the layer above the control. It gives you an Owner Portal with real-time revenue and machine monitoring, remote control and programming, a customer app with cashless payment and cycle alerts, and Scan-Pay-Wash, where a customer scans a QR code on the machine and pays with Apple Pay, Google Pay or a card without installing anything.

Huebsch sells it in Bronze, Silver and Gold tiers. Bronze reports pull one month of data history with email-only support; Silver and Gold pull multi-year history with phone and chat support, and all three tiers include the CRM module and 50-plus reports. The Dryer Lineup

Huebsch tumble dryers are single-pocket (HT) or stacked (HTT). The 2021 spec sheet (AH21-0137) is the source for the numbers below. The current product pages list singles at 30, 55, 75 and 120 lb and stacks at 2×30 and 2×55, with a reversing cylinder now standard and a 5-year limited warranty on all parts.

Two numbers drive the dryer decision. Btu per pocket sets dry time, and the 26.9 in door on the HT055 and HTT45 takes a comforter that fights the 22.7 in door on an HT030. Height matters in older buildings: an HTT30 stands 76.3 in and an HTT45 stands 81.3 in, a five-inch difference under a low ceiling with ductwork above it. ProCapture is Huebsch's cyclone lint system, available on the 30, 55 and 75 lb singles and the 30 and 55 lb stacks. Huebsch's own lab testing showed 94 to 98% lint capture with towel loads dried at 185°F, and the page says no independent testing was done. Warranty

This is where Huebsch earns its keep on a used purchase. The hardmount page lists a 5-year limited warranty on all parts and a 10-year warranty on seals and bearings. The warranty page goes further: a 10-year extended warranty on vended cabinet hardmount washer-extractors from 20 through 100 lb, covering the frame, outer tub, cylinder, shaft, bearing housing, seals and bearings. It applies to machines manufactured on or after May 15, 2007, runs from the first installation by the original owner, and is transferable.

Transferable is the operative word. A hardmount installed in 2019 that you buy second-hand in 2026 still carries frame and bearing coverage into 2029, provided the distributor can confirm the install date. Vended tumble dryers carry the 5-year limited warranty on all parts and nothing beyond it. Get the serial number and have a Huebsch distributor pull the install record before you wire money.

Error Codes Worth Memorizing

Galaxy washers and Quantum washers display the same codes because they share the same control family. The list below is from Laundry Nation's transcription of the Alliance manual, cross-checked against National Laundry Equipment's guide. One trap: Alliance's official list defines E Sd as slow drain detection, not suds.

Tumble dryers show OP for an open thermistor circuit and SH for a shorted one. E:07 and E:08 mean an inoperative control. EC:xx codes are card-reader faults, from EC:19 (no reader communication) to EC:31 (hotlisted card). Alrm and OFF are the break-in alarm and its shutdown, and door means the door is open. A dryer that runs but doesn't heat usually shows no code at all. Work the diagnostic in order: igniter, gas valve, airflow switch, thermistor. Daily Checks and the Soap Box

Alliance's maintenance page, published under the Speed Queen name and covering the same Huebsch hardware, is short. Tumble dryers: clean the lint compartment and screen daily, check the cylinder for foreign objects daily, remove lint from inside the exhaust duct monthly, and have an authorized service rep clean the tumbler annually. Washer-extractors: check door lock operation daily, inspect inlet valve hose connections for leaks daily, and leave the door open at the end of the day.

The supply dispenser on a Huebsch hardmount is a four-compartment hopper on the top deck. On the Galaxy hardmounts we photographed, the layout as you look down into the open hopper is softener back left, liquid-only detergent or bleach back right, pre-wash detergent front left, and main wash detergent front right. Customers overfill because nothing on the lid says which compartment is which.

Huebsch vs Dexter, and What Used Machines Cost

Dexter is the other brand you'll price against. Dexter uses three door sizes across its whole vended washer line: 12 1/4 in on the T-300 and T-350, 15 1/4 in on the T-400 through T-650, and 19 1/4 in from the T-750 up to the T-1450. Huebsch runs 11.6 through 18.5 in over six sizes, so Dexter's big machines have the wider hole and Huebsch's small ones have the narrower one.

Dexter's C-Series washer sheets list 10 years on frame, tub, cylinder, shaft, seals, bearings and bearing housing with 3 years on parts, against Huebsch's 10 and 5, and Dexter includes lifetime technical support. On price, Alliance publishes no list price and dealers post "Call for Pricing". Reseller estimates put a 25 lb hardmount from about $5,000 and a 60 lb at $10,000 to $20,000 or more, new.

Used listings for the identical Speed Queen-badged 30 lb hardmount show $3,000 for an SC30 on eBay and $3,600 for a 2017 SCN030 rebuilt with a 3-month parts and 1-year bearing warranty from Midwest Laundries. A used Huebsch HCT030 is the same machine and should trade in the same band. If a listing sits well below it, ask why.

Which Huebsch Should You Buy?

If you're building on a slab, buy cabinet hardmount with Galaxy Touch and put Command on it from day one. Time-of-day pricing and cycle modifiers are where the extra revenue is, and the control is decided at purchase. If you're on a second floor, softmount is the only option and the 30% premium is the cost of the building. If you're buying used, Galaxy 600 is the floor: it's Command compatible and the 10-year extended warranty transfers. A Galaxy 500 machine is cheaper for a reason.

Size the floor by door opening, not by nameplate capacity, because the 40 and 60 share a door and so do the 80 and 100. Dealer sizing guides run about 1.25 dryer pockets per washer pocket, so a bank of six washers wants seven or eight dryer pockets, and HTT stacks get you there in half the floor space. Before you sign anything, get the serial numbers, have the distributor confirm the install date on each hardmount, and measure the ceiling where the stacks are going.
