Laundromat Revenue Streams Beyond Wash and Dry
Self-service wash and dry is your core business, but it shouldn't be your only revenue stream. Diversifying income reduces risk and increases revenue per square foot. Here are proven supplemental revenue sources for laundromats.
Wash-and-Fold Service
The highest-margin add-on. Charge $1.50-$2.50 per pound and use your existing machines during slower periods; if volume outgrows them, a larger-capacity washer is the usual next purchase, covered in our laundromat equipment buying guide. Margins run well above self-service because the machines and utilities are already paid for, which makes this the single best revenue diversification for most laundromats. Start offering it with existing staff and scale as demand grows, following our guide to starting a wash-and-fold service.
Pickup and Delivery
An extension of wash-and-fold that reaches customers who won't visit a self-service facility, and adding pickup and delivery needs little more than a vehicle and set delivery days. Command a premium of $2.00-$3.50 per pound. Serves busy professionals, families, and elderly customers. Start with 2-3 delivery days per week and expand based on demand.
Vending Machines
Detergent vending serves a genuine customer need and generates $200-$500/month. Snack and drink vending adds a smaller second stream on top of that. Low maintenance, passive income. Place machines where customers naturally spend time waiting.
Commercial Accounts
Hotels, restaurants, salons, gyms, and uniform companies need regular laundry service. Commercial accounts provide predictable recurring revenue. Offer per-pound pricing with a volume discount. A single hotel contract can be worth hundreds to a few thousand dollars a month, depending on linen volume.
Retail Products
Sell laundry bags, mesh wash bags, stain removers, and convenience items. Keep inventory small and focused on items customers actually buy in a laundromat context. Display near the register or waiting area.
ATM Machine
If you still accept coins, an ATM in your laundromat serves your customers' need for cash and generates surcharge income on every withdrawal. ATM operators will often place and maintain the machine for a revenue share.
Advertising Space
Sell advertising space on walls, above folding tables, or on digital screens to local businesses. A dentist, pizza shop, or tax preparer will pay a modest monthly fee for exposure to your foot traffic; price it against local coupon-mailer and bulletin rates. This is pure profit with zero cost of goods.
