How to Add a Pickup and Delivery Service to Your Laundromat

Pickup and delivery laundry service is one of the fastest-growing segments of the laundromat industry. It turns your existing equipment and labor into a higher-margin revenue stream that serves customers who would never set foot in a self-service laundromat.

The Business Case

Self-service generates $3-8 per load. A wash-and-fold service generates $1.50-$2.50 per pound. Pickup and delivery adds a convenience premium on top of wash-and-fold pricing — typically $2.00-$3.50 per pound with a minimum order ($25-$40). Your equipment and detergent costs are the same; you're selling convenience. If commercial-size orders push you toward a bigger washer, our laundromat equipment buying guide covers sizing and financing.

Getting Started

Start simple: define your service area (typically 5-10 mile radius), set up an ordering system (even a phone number or online form works to start), designate pickup/delivery days (2-3 per week initially), and use your personal vehicle for deliveries. You can scale to a dedicated vehicle and daily service as demand grows.

Ordering Systems

Options range from free (Google Forms, phone orders) to professional (CleanCloud, Curbside Laundries, Starchup). Professional platforms handle scheduling, routing, payment, and customer communication. They cost $50-$200/month but save significant administrative time and present a professional image.

Pricing Structure

Per-pound pricing with a minimum order is standard. Include a delivery fee for orders below a threshold (waived above). Separate pricing for special items (comforters, delicates). Be transparent about turnaround time — next-day is the standard expectation.

Marketing the Service

Target busy professionals, families, elderly customers, and apartment dwellers. Apartment complexes are ideal partners — offer bulk pricing for their residents, and the same pitch works for hotels and other commercial accounts. Use your existing Google Business Profile, social media, and in-store signage to promote the service. Wall-mounted card holders with pickup/delivery pricing cards give existing customers an easy way to learn about the service.

Quality Control

The stakes are higher with pickup/delivery — customers aren't watching you wash their clothes. Use consistent processes, label every order clearly, and double-check before delivery. Any quality issue gets amplified when the customer isn't there to catch it in real time.
