How to Keep Your Laundromat Clean Between Attendant Shifts

If your laundromat is open longer than your attendant works — which is the case for most operations — cleanliness standards can slip during unattended hours. Here's how to maintain the cleanliness standards you've set around the clock.

Set Up for Success Before Leaving

Your attendant's closing routine should leave the laundromat in peak condition: floors mopped, all surfaces wiped, trash emptied, soap trays cleaned, restroom stocked and cleaned, and folding tables clear. If the laundromat starts the unattended period spotless, it stays cleaner longer.

Strategic Trash Can Placement

Place large trash cans (with lids) near folding tables, near the entrance, and near seating areas. If customers can easily reach a trash can, they'll use it. If they can't, lint, dryer sheets, and packaging end up on the floor.

Self-Serve Cleaning Station

Set up a small station with paper towels and a spray bottle of all-purpose cleaner. Label it: "Help us keep things clean — please wipe down your folding table after use." Many customers will do it — especially if the expectation is clearly communicated.

Durable Surfaces

Choose materials that resist staining and are easy to clean. Stainless steel or laminate folding tables, sealed concrete or vinyl flooring, and washable paint all hold up better between cleanings than porous or absorbent materials.

Machine-Level Maintenance

Soap tray liners and labels stay in place between shifts. Color-coded liners reduce the mess customers make by putting the wrong products in the wrong compartments — which means less residue on the machines and less cleanup needed.

Camera Checks

If you have cloud cameras, check in periodically during unattended hours. If you see a significant mess developing, you can send an attendant for a quick cleanup or address it when the next shift starts. This also lets you identify repeat offenders or patterns that need addressing.

The Morning Check

Your opening attendant's first task should be a 10-minute walk-through: note any issues from the unattended period (a washer showing an error code gets checked against our commercial washer troubleshooting guide before customers arrive), do a quick sweep, wipe down high-touch surfaces, and restock anything that ran out. This reset ensures every customer — first or last — gets a clean experience.
