How to Read a Speed Queen Washer Error Code

When a Speed Queen commercial washer displays an error code, it's telling you exactly what's wrong — if you know how to read it. Here are the most common error codes and what to do about each one.

How Error Codes Display

Speed Queen Quantum Gold and Quantum Touch controls show the code on the display, usually with an E prefix: E:FL, E:dr, E:dL. Huebsch Galaxy and UniMac controls use the same codes because Alliance shares the control platform across all three badges. Check your machine's manual for the full list.

E:dL / Door Lock Error

The machine can't confirm the door is locked. Usually caused by a faulty door latch, misaligned door, or a wiring issue. First check: is anything blocking the door from closing fully? If the door closes properly but the error persists, the latch mechanism or door switch may need replacement.

E:FL / Fill Error

The machine didn't reach its water level within the maximum fill time. Check that both supply valves are fully open, check inlet hoses for kinks, and pull and flush the inlet valve screens for grit and scale. If the screens are clean, check the pressure hose from the tub to the level sensor for kinks, cracks, or soap sludge in the air trap. Clogged screens are the most common cause.

E:dr / Drain Error

The machine exceeded its maximum drain time, or the control still sensed water at the end of drain or spin. Clean the coin trap or sump, inspect the drain hose and standpipe for kinks, clogs, or a slow site drain, and confirm the drain line isn't elevated above the machine's maximum drain height. On pump-drain models, a pump that has voltage but weak flow needs replacement. A blocked pressure tube can also make the control think water remains.

E:0d / Pressure Switch Error

The control is seeing the water level sensor in the wrong state (some Quantum washer-extractors show this as E:Pr). The usual cause is detergent sludge or an air leak in the pressure tube and air trap between the tub and the sensor. Pull the tube, clean it, and make sure the connections are airtight; if the code returns with a clean, tight tube, replace the pressure switch. The sludge starts with customers overpouring, so color-coded liners and labels that mark the correct compartment cut how often you see it.

E:Ub / Unbalanced Load

The machine detected excess vibration and cancelled the final spin. One heavy item or an overloaded drum is the usual cause, so rebalance the load and run it again. If it keeps happening on one machine, check that it's level and the anchor bolts are tight; on softmount models, inspect the suspension for leaking shocks or stretched springs. Worn suspension parts need replacement.

When to Call a Technician

Simple fixes — clogged filters, kinked hoses, closed valves — you can handle, and most never appear if you follow our Speed Queen cleaning and maintenance routine. Electrical faults, bearing issues, and control board errors should go to a qualified commercial laundry technician. Don't attempt electrical repairs unless you're trained.
