How to install your cart AirTag holder

Fits standard wire laundry carts. Apple AirTag not included.

Before you start

  • Time: 4–5 minutes per holder.
  • You need: a drill, a 9/64" drill bit, and the T25 security bit (included in your kit).
  • Name it first. Add each AirTag to Find My as "Cart 01," "Cart 02" and so on before you seal it in. Then every dot on the map matches a cart on your floor.

Steps

1. Choose spot

We suggest under the cart, out of sight, lengthwise on a bottom frame tube. It's your call, but under the cart works best:

  • Hidden. You can't see it from standing height. A thief who can't see the tag won't pull it.
  • Hard to tamper with. Someone would have to tip the cart or crawl under it, which gets noticed in a laundromat.
  • Shields the tag. It stays out of the basket, away from wet laundry and kids' hands.

2. Pilot holes

Hold the base (the flat plate) against the tube as a template, lined up lengthwise. Mark both holes, then drill two pilot holes with a 9/64" bit.

3. AirTag in

Press the AirTag into the round pocket in the lid until it seats.

4. Stack

Set the base flat against the tube, over the holes. Put the lid on top with the AirTag sealed between them. Nothing snaps together. The screws hold it, so keep the stack pressed in place.

5. Screw

Hold the stack and drive both security screws through the lid and base into the pilot holes with the T25 bit. Stop when they're snug. Overtightening strips the hole or cracks the PETG.

6. Cap and check

Press a cap into each screw hole. Then open Find My and check that the cart shows up.

Important

  • Keep the T25 bit. Store it with your maintenance tools. You'll need it for battery changes.
  • Battery about once a year. Find My shows a low battery warning. Remove the caps and screws, swap in a CR2032 battery, and reinstall. Spare caps are in your kit.
  • Thieves with iPhones may get an alert. Apple alerts a nearby iPhone if an unknown AirTag travels with it. That can tip off a thief, but by then the cart has already shown up on your map.
