Wascomat Gen 6 vs Gen 7: What Laundromat Operators Need to Know
If you run Wascomat or Electrolux commercial washers, you've probably noticed the Gen 6 and Gen 7 designations. But what's actually different, and does it matter?
The Key Differences
Gen 6 and Gen 7 refer to different generations of the Wascomat/Electrolux commercial washer lines. The main differences are:
- Controls: Gen 7 machines have updated microprocessor controls with more programmable options.
- Energy efficiency: Gen 7 models generally offer improved water and energy efficiency.
- Parts compatibility: Some parts are interchangeable, but not all. Always verify part numbers.
Soap Tray Compatibility
The soap dispenser tray is one area where Gen 6 and Gen 7 share the same design — specifically, trays with part numbers #432240101 and #472995401. If your machine uses either of these part numbers, the same soap tray organizer kit works for both generations.
How to check: Pull out the soap tray and look for the part number molded into the plastic, usually on the bottom or side.
Should You Upgrade?
If your Gen 6 machines are running well, there's no urgent reason to upgrade. The efficiency gains are incremental. Upgrade when machines reach end of life or when repair costs exceed 50% of replacement cost.
